Web site home of the Tourette Syndrome Association - Oklahoma Chapter. We are pleased you located us and hope that you will find our Web site a helpful resource. Our goal is to support those who have Tourette Syndrome (TS) and to make TS better understood in society through education.
Tourette Syndrome is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by repeated involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics. There are significant associated conditions which compound the impact on patient's lives. Approximately 50-70% have Attention Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In addition, learning disabilities, obsessive compulsive behaviors, impulse control difficulties, sleep disorders, and mood disorders often accompany TS. It is not uncommon for an affected individual to have several, if not all, of these to some degree over the course of a lifetime. Clinical experience suggests that these associated conditions are more troublesome than the tics for the person with TS.
The mission of Our Chapter of the Tourette Syndrome Association Inc. is to educate the general public about Tourette Syndrome and further the acceptance of people with Tourette Syndrome in all settings.
The goals of Our Chapter are:
- To promote a greater understanding of TS;
- To educate professionals and the general public about TS;
- To provide service, information and support to people with TS, their families and others concerned about TS; and
- To promote a strong level of personal support and interaction among people with TS, their families and the community at large.
